Ketoconazole 2% cream is primarily prescribed to treat a variety of fungal and yeast infections of the skin, including: Athlete’s Foot (Tinea pedis) Jock Itch (Tinea cruris) Ringworm (Tinea corporis) Seborrheic Dermatitis (Scaly, itchy skin usually on the face or chest) Pityriasis (Tinea Versicolor) (A fungal infection that causes light or dark patches on the skin) Ketoconazole works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. By disrupting the membrane's integrity, it causes the fungal cells to “leak” and eventually die, effectively stopping the spread of the infection and allowing your skin to heal.
